I was trying to impress upon my daughter, that she need not fear finding the 'right guy'. We are, after all, on the brink of her heading out to takle the world all on her own. :( And I'm concerned that she will emulate many of the girls that have ventured out on their own, and decided that they needed someone else to feel whole.
It was one of those meaningful talks that happen rarely between a mother and daughter. Life altering... or at least potentially so. Our family was hiking the trail at Dawson Butte. It was a lovely evening, considering it was a 90 degree day. And it was a 5 mile trail, so plenty of time to talk. My husand and younger daughter, oh and our pet Yoshi, had gotten pretty far ahead on the trail. And my 18 year old's conversation had faded into lamentation of past relationships. She is was, reasonably, concerned that she will never find a guy that isn't crazy. "If he's sane, he isn't available". I empathized and said that I was in her shoes at about her age. That's when I met her dad. "And see, your dad's a good guy! They do exist! And there are so many guys out there that you haven't met yet. NO RUSH! Give it time." I've always been quick to share my opinion that you will find your perfect match when you aren't looking. Now, I know what your thinking. This was a cliche response for a parent to give to a child that is contemplating a hopeless, romantic future. And it isn't very helpful of me to just spit out the words that most people use, even if I didn't use the phrases verbatem: 'There are other fish in the sea, you'll find someone, be patient, blah, blah, blah'. When of course there are way too many varibles involved to truly believe that there is absolutely no chance that your beautiful girl will die an old maid. No worries fellow concerned individuals! I quickly ammended my previous statements. Because of course I don't believe that my daughter is doomed to spend her life as a SWF. So, I explained finding that 'right someone' in a upgraded fashion: "OK. I lied. All guys are crazy. But in thier defense a high percentage of girls a b4t sh1t crazy! What you will find, is someone that exsists on your level of crazy. Then you will be happy!" I think that statement rings more true. Agreed? I would love to hear your thoughts!
